| The 2 years planning phase for the construction of a new Trolleybus in Verona, Italy appears at last to be coming to fruition. The plan is to build two main routes traversing the city on the sections: San Michele - Stadium Hospital di Borgo Roma - Ca 'di Cozzi Additional branches in the suburbs are planned. A three minute headway on the first of these two routes and six minutes on the second is planned during rush hour. In the city centre no overhead will be erected and the Trolleybuses will be using alternative propulsion (hybrid/diesel). On the proposed 23 km system 37 Trolleybuses will be used. It is assumed that 18m-articulated Trolleybuses will be purchased, however, the local city government has launched an inquiry to the Ministry of Transport regarding the possible use of double-articulated Trolleybuses. The estimated total costs of 164.5 million Euro will not be financed solely by the municipality. An application for funding for the majority of project has been placed with the central government in Rome. Here, after a public airing, the project has been positively assessed. A decision on a definitive allocation subsidy is expected within the next few months. The start of construction is still optimistically planed for 2010 and completion to be within three years. the new system in Bologna has been cited as a model for the new system in Verona. Verona has previously had a Trolleybus network which lasted from 1937 to 1975. There was also an extensive overland network in operation between 1958 and August 1981. The Overland system operated 26 articulated Trolleybuses type Fiat 2405 with "Stanga" bodywork with a length of 17.1 m and 3 two axle FIAT 2405 Macchi Trolleybuses. The system comprised five routes with about 63 km total length. In 1958 it replaced the light rail system. With an overhead line voltage of 1.2 KV the Trolleybuses attained speeds of up to 80 km/h on the Kummler & Matter overhead system.
